Hossa, McEgo and the NHL Investigation
Posted on August 3, 2009

John McDonough a.k.a. McEgoSassone's BLOG makes a good point by asking: Why did the league approve the contract in the first place back on July 1 if it thought there was any sort of red flag?

However, while Chicago may not have broken any rules (although that's yet to be determined I guess) - if they did purposely break the "spirit of the CBA" and/or knowingly created a situation that could have a potential negative impact on the NHL, they should be investigated by the league and accept any punishment that might be handed down.

The health of the league is not very strong and we've already experienced a canceled season as a result teams' stupidity in handling their payrolls and finances. Although they might be "legal", just because Chicago or Detroit (sucks) or any team believes they've found a possible loop-hole in the CBA and can circumvent the overall financial health of the league with these 10+ year deals.... do not make those contracts "right".

Is this a whole lot of nothing? Should the Blackhawks or their fans be upset? Personally I think the answers are NO and NO. But let's circle back and discuss it further during the next lockout.
